Meditation Beyond Relaxation

Many of my friends from Maui and beyond have asked me, what is it exactly that you do now? Difficult question to answer in a Facebook posting, text or tweet. And most of the time, I’m so busy at the meditation school that I don’t have time to cogitate something that passes meaning. Imagine if you’ve just spent the last four years of your life doing something that had never occurred to you to do before, in a way that defies all expectations, has opened a whole new way of being, changed your life forever, and someone you care about asks you, “so, what have you been up to?”

Malama Wao Akua, a native species art show created by Kat Lui, has been an annual beloved celebration of environmental protection, education and art on Maui since 2004. Who knew that the results of meditation would be so powerful as to affect a life changing decision to leave paradise in pursuit of an unplanned adventure for self-knowledge and awakening.

Well, it’s a rainy day (again) here in Portland, the city where I’ve decided to nest this winter. This year’s non-stop in-house intensive at the Clairvision School has come to a close (phew!) and there were a number of adventures along the way that I’d like to share. Now that I’ve got fast internet, warm weather (no more walking out into the snow to get to my bathroom), and my own schedule, that gives me ample space to creatively share exactly ‘what it is I’ve been up to’.

Here’s a teaser for the next time: how meditation has made me a better sniper…and improved my bowling skills.   :-) Or, as my teacher would say...

Using meditation to relax is like driving your Ferrari to the grocery store. Meditation is not meant to be vegetable soup!
